Did you know?

Approximately 5 % of all pap smears show changes that need further investigation. If this happens, you will be referred to a gynaecologist for further investigation.

More information

KBC is an examination where the gynaecologist looks at the cervix with a microscope (colposcopy) and takes small tissue samples and a scraping to examine cell changes.

Contact us

If you have been diagnosed with HPV and/or cell changes, we offer fast examination appointments. Contact us directly by phone +45 33 13 13 82 from 9.30 - 12.00.

Cell changes

The examination is done under local anaesthesia and takes 10-15 minutes. Once the anaesthetic is working, you will not feel any pain.

After KBC, you may have light bleeding for a few days. We place a gauze in the vagina, which is removed after 3-4 hours. The samples are sent for analysis, and after 8-10 days you will receive an answer about the next steps, e.g. control or Cone cut.

Facts and FAQ

The test can show no cell changes or mild, moderate or severe changes. Mild changes often resolve on their own, while moderate and severe changes require closer monitoring or treatment to prevent the development of cancer.

KBC is an examination where the cervix is viewed under a microscope and small tissue samples and a scraping are taken to assess cell changes.

The examination is performed under local anaesthesia. You may feel pressure or discomfort, but not pain, when the anaesthetic takes effect.

Avoid sexual intercourse for 3-5 days due to bleeding risk and wound healing.

You can use a tampon, but avoid using a menstrual cup until bleeding has stopped and at least 3 days have passed.

Avoid swimming pools, spas and bathtubs for about 2-3 days. Avoid strenuous exercise on the same day.

Mild changes often go away on their own. Moderate and severe ones require monitoring or treatment to prevent the development of cancer.

The tissue samples will be analysed and you will receive the results after 8-10 days. You will then be scheduled for a check-up or possible treatment.
